What Is Under It Matters
A tile floor is only as good as what it sits on. Over a concrete slab, the tile goes down on the slab. Over a wood subfloor, and on any upper floor, we put down an uncoupling membrane first. Wood moves with the seasons, and in a Minnesota house it moves a lot. The membrane keeps that movement from cracking the tile and the grout.
When you ask for a price, tell us which one you have. If you are not sure, we will look when we measure.
Sizes And Layouts
Large format tile, plank tile in an offset or staggered pattern, small tile in a bathroom. Bigger tile needs a flatter floor, so part of every measure is checking how flat yours is.
Entries
An entry floor in Minnesota takes snow, salt and sand all winter. Porcelain holds up to it, and a tight grout joint is easier to keep clean.
